Virgil Abloh (/ˈæ b l oʊ/; September 30, 1980 – November 28, 2021) was an American fashion designer and entrepreneur. One of the most influential and respected fashion designers of his generation, he started his luxury streetwear line Pyrex Vision in 2012 and became CEO of the Milanese fashion label he founded, Off-White year 2013. Since 2018, Abloh has also served as the artistic director of the Louis Vuitton menswear collection, and has been given more creative responsibilities across the LVMH brand, due to launch in early 2021. A trained architect who worked in Chicago street fashion, Abloh entered the international fashion scene in 2009 when he interned at Fendi alongside American rapper Kanye West. Abloh joined West’s creative agency Donda in 2010 as creative director. In 2013, Abloh founded Off-White. He joined LVMH in 2018, becoming the first African-American to serve as an artistic director at a French luxury fashion house,[2] Abloh was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world that year by Time magazine. [3] Abloh’s design aesthetic combining streetwear and luxury clothing was described by The New York Times as transformative. [4] According to the Wall Street Journal, his global popularity has reached levels unusual for a designer,[5] According to the BBC, he is an inspirational figure. [6]
